Every child has all the potential to become a good and responsible citizen in a future world when she/he is born, but the family circumstances and the environment make them good or bad citizens in their later lives.

Iniya Udayam charitable trust (IUCT) is a registered organization working towards bringing lasting change among children who are living in difficult circumstances since the last 19 years. The major focus of our interventions is to mainstream the children through formal education. We believe that education is the only maiden tool to empower the children, followed by vocational training for those who are above the age of 14 years and who have not gone to school. 

Children in difficult circumstances are those who are denied a safe and secure environment to grow and develop. The Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes the need of the children to survive, develop, be protected and participate.

Predominantly, children who drop out or never been to school are the most potential to become child labors/street children/rag pickers/beggars and some of them are even vulnerable to trafficking. These children primarily land up at due to its transport connectivity and wide opportunities available for them to work and earn. Most of these children belong to backward classes. We work in Kancheepuram and Thiruvallore district of Tamil Nadu in more than 10 settlements.

Children are the future pillars of our country. We know that “Educating the children” is the paramount important activity for building a healthy nation. In slums and low-income group areas, due to illiteracy of parents, the poor economic condition of the family, lack of moral values, lack of guidance, lack of facilities, lack of parental care, peer pressure, etc., children are not growing into healthy confident human beings.

With the goal to empower underprivileged children and make them self-reliant, healthy and confident, value-based quality education is being imparted to the first generation of school going children wherein they get the opportunity to exhibit their innate talents, IUCT is working in more interior settlements in Thiruvallur districts.

Through our interventions, we have reached out to more than 5000 Children and their families in the above said working areas. More than 500 Children has completed higher studies and received technical education for job placements. IUCT believes that more than academic education and the children need to calculate good values and principles to lead a peaceful living. We ensure that all children who come to IUCT center go with flying colors in the society with self-confident and values to face the outside world.
